Beautiful deep green balls of adamite crystals (of the type that has been referred to as “cuprian adamite”). The crystals themselves are translucent and glassy, and the colour is really rich. The largest ball is 0.5cm in diameter. I acquired this great little specimen in 1989 and have always loved it.

Brilliant cluster of bright, glassy transparent very light lilac amethyst crystals on matrix. The cluster measures 4.8 x 5.2 x 3.5 cm. The amethyst crystals contain minor microscopic inclusions of blood-red lepidocrocite. The base/underside of the matrix has been sawed flat so that the specimen displays well (there are no saw cuts anywhere else and […]

Beautiful, bright radiating group of pale amethyst crystals with a bit of matrix at the base, excellent from 360 degrees. Each of the two largest crystals has a wispy “belt” inside, part way up, making the   piece distinctive. The largest crystal is 3.7 x 1.1 x 1.1 cm. Great proportions and extremely aesthetic.

Cluster of amethyst crystals ranging to the most delicate pale lilac. The most prominent feature is the largest crystal (4.0 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm) with its pair of termination points, and internal wispiness that catches the light nicely. This crystal is in perfect condition, and very mildly sceptered. The smaller crystal radiating out from […]

Wonderful off-matrix cluster of pale amethyst crystals, with the central crystal nicely offset by the smaller ones.   The main crystal (5.3 x 2.1 x 1.9 cm) is pristine and a good size for a transparent amethyst from this locality.  The smaller crystals have a couple of extremely tiny nicks (under 1mm – you have to […]

This beautiful miniature is about as picture-perfect and well-proportioned as life gets. Two absolutely pristine pale lilac amethyst crystals – bright, lustrous and  transparent. The largest crystal is 3.6cm long. The colour in the photos is accurate for the background but on a lighter background the crystals appear slightly less saturated. Love the perfection of […]

This is a killer!  An old specimen, this beautiful hematite “iron rose” is in exceptional condition.  It is so hard to find these as free from damage as this one, particularly this size.  The central part of the rosette is intricate – I’ve included a couple of close-ups to help show that a little better.  […]

Beautiful sharp heulandite crystals clustered on top of a bed of mordenite crystals. These heulandites have good lustre and are a particularly vibrant salmon colour, both for the mineral and for the locality.  From the Pete Richards collection, acquired from John Cornish, in October, 2003. A fine colourful display specimen. About Pete Richards (click here)

A radial disk of crystallized pyrite. These “pyrite suns”, as they are known, represent a unique occurrence – they are only known from the coal mines around the southern Illinois town of Sparta. Until recently, their mode of occurrence has been theorized but not well understood. However… there is a new article coming out soon […]
