Dolomite, var. Cobaltoan Dolomite

Specimen # 101197
Mineral: Dolomite, var. Cobaltoan Dolomite
Location: Dolomite, var. Cobaltoan Dolomite, Agoudal Mine, Bou Azzer District, Tazenakht , Ouarzazate, Morocco
Size: 5.8 x 5.4 x 2.6 cm

Description

The colour of these cobaltoan dolomite crystals is shocking – an electric pink. The specimen is covered in small sparkling cobaltoan dolomite crystals, and what is particularly interesting is that some are arranged in an epimorphic form – indicating that they grew over top of crystals of a mineral that is no longer there. There are hollows in various places, but none of the shapes is clearly indicative of what mineral might have been there first. In excellent condition, minor rubbing in places. What a colour!
