Fluorapatite

Specimen # 100052
Mineral: Fluorapatite
Location: Ipirá, Bahia, Brazil
Size: 4.5 x 1.9 x 1.4 cm

Description

The fluorapatites from Ipirá are the most amazing hue of blue – when strongly lit or backlit they can look otherworldly. Unfortunately, they are often rounded and always damaged – I’ve looked through hundreds and it is almost impossible to find fine specimens! It’s exasperating. Look at even the published photographs of Ipira fluorapatites – they show very rounded and damaged specimens, so I’m not alone in my findings. This one is very sharp and is exceptional quality for these – it does have minor nicks, including one to the “back” of the termination (as photographed), but the edges and termination are well defined and not rounded.
