Rutile (Twinned)

Specimen # 200264
Mineral: Rutile
Location: McGregor Lake, Gatineau, Outaouais, Quebec, Canada
Size: 3.5 x 2.2 x 1.7 cm

Description

Twinned dark red rutile from McGregor Lake. The rutile crystals at this locality grew into narrow fissures and together with the associated feldspar, so most crystals have contacts and some terminations are contacted, uneven and/or not well developed (such as the exposed end of the larger twin on this piece) even though not damaged.  In very good condition, with a small chip at the corner of the large twin. From the Steve Szilard collection, a good Canadian rutile twin.
