Schorl Tourmaline

Specimen # 200291
Mineral: Schorl Tourmaline
Location: Sceptre Claims, Emerald Lake, Mayo Mining District, Yukon, Canada
Size: 11.3 x 6.6 x 5.8 cm

Description

A specimen of diverging groups of schorl crystals from a very remote locality collected in the 1980s. The Sceptre Claims at Emerald lake included pockets in steep cliffs and specimens were recovered by rappelling down the cliff faces. This cabinet specimen features aggregates of black tourmaline together with small smoky quartz crystals. The tourmaline crystals are mostly not terminated, with incomplete areas, but the specimen overall is nonetheless a dramatic display piece, particularly displayed with support to stand upright as photographed. From the Steve Szilard collection, a neat tourmaline from the Yukon.
