Zircon

Specimen # 100353
Mineral: Zircon
Location: Bulbin, nr. Astor, Wazirat District, N.A, Pakistan
Size: 5.7 x 5.4 x 2.0 cm

Description

Beautiful sharp wine-coloured zircon crystal, measuring 1.3 cm tall, set in the middle of a light-coloured matrix giving great contrast to the piece. The zircon is glassy, lustrous and a bit translucent. As you can see from the one photograph, the crystal grew against the enclosing mineralization in a way that left the one side incompletely developed (it is naturally crystallized this way, not damaged). The termination is pristine and the crystal is damage-free, save for a small nick at the front corner – you only see it if you tilt the specimen around at an angle at which it would not display, and even then it looks like a modification face unless you magnify it. This is a classy zircon miniature.
