Hydroxylherderite |
Specimen # | 100954 | |
Mineral: | Hydroxylherderite
Location: | Morro Redondo Mine, Coronel Murta, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: | 5.3 x 5.1 x 3.4 cm | |
This specimen hosts a number of sharp, lustrous hydroxylherderite crystals on albite and quartz. It's pretty uncommon that a mineral specimen looks equally great from three different angles, but this specimen does. The largest crystals show a very obvious zoning, with a slightly lilac-hued darker core (with uneven, irregular border), a lighter zone and then a golden light brown outer zone. The largest crystal is an interesting form that looks like it is twinned, but I wonder if this may in facrt be a parallel-growth feature (I could be wrong, as hydroxlherderite does frequently exhibit twinning). Small gemmy muscovite crystals in association. In excellent condition, two small nicks. A super, sharp Brazilian hydroxlherderite.
