Arsenopyrite, Löllingite

Specimen # 100606
Mineral: Arsenopyrite
Location: Huanggang Mines, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhad, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
Size: 6.3 x 4.8 x 3.9 cm
Price: $60.00 CAD

Quantity:
Sold.

Sharp, bright arsenopyrite crystals up to 0.9 cm in size are stacked entirely covering underlying bladed crystals of löllingite. When you examine the specimen, you can see that there is some kind of stacking going on, but no löllingite is visible because the arsenopyrite crystal clusters are so thick. We know that the löllingite is underlying, in part because this is the nature of this particular occurrence at Huanggang, but also upon examining the underside, one can see a small bit of evidence of  cleaved löllingite on the underside of the specimen. (Not too hard to make out in person - in addition to the platy appearance of the löllingite, löllingite and arsnopyrite are different hues of silver.)

In very good condition, there are very small chips/rubs and a few missing crystals low on the piece (on the underside, as I would display it).  From the display side it looks great - mirror-bright.

This is a brilliant, lustrous specimen of arsenopyrite
