Specimen # | 100756 | |
Mineral: | Inesite | |
Location: | N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa | |
Size: | 3.0 x 2.5 x 1.4 cm | |
Detailed Description
One of two top thumbnail-sized specimens of these inesites, this is a gorgeous radiating group of sparkling inesite crystals. This one has very nicely articulated radiating structure - it could be displayed from eithe side, but I prefer the lighter-coloured side with the strong definition of separate radiating crystals.
In excellent condition - looks great with the eye and a little minor rubbing but insignificant given the piece: from the front, at the upper right, the lighter-coloured spot is almost all contact with the lightness being caused by lighter mineralized material (although with magnification looks like there might be a tiny rub there) and there are a couple of small rubs lower on the piece. The rubs are not distracting - displayed properly, they are lost in the sparkle of the piece.
This is a fantastic inesite.
About These Inesites
In 2014 a very small pocket at the N’Chwaning II Mine produced some exquisite small specimens of inesite, very sharp and intricate, and in superb condition. I was lucky to have the first chance at these and selected out only a few specimens, the ones I judged to be the best. They are much more dramatic than many inesites - they are not just drusy, they have well-defined crystal groups.
