Alabandite

Specimen # 101342
Mineral: Alabandite
Location: Alabandite, Merelani Hills, Lelatima Mountains, Manyara, Tanzania
Size: 4.5 x 2.7 x 2.2 cm

Description

This is a unique alabandite crystal. At 4.5 cm, it is very large for the species. Although it is possible to make out the crystal forms of octahedreon, cube and dodecahedron present, this crystal was naturally etched. As a result, it has surface etch patterns and the forms have been somewhat rounded. The etching features include two hollows, one of which is a tube that runs completely through one end of the crystal and out the other side. In excellent condition, no damage. This crystal has a beautiful patina and surface patterns that sparkle and really makes the piece. Truly a one-of-a-kind, and a great price for such a large alabandite crystal.
