Barite

Specimen # 100602
Mineral: Barite
Location: Lushi Co., Sanmenxia Prefecture, Henan Province, China
Size: 5.7 x 5.1 x 3.8 cm

Description

Some people might be tempted to pass by a colourless barite without looking too closely, but they would miss this gem. The crystals are like glass – water clear, sharp and lustrous. But most of all, the overall form of this specimen from the optimal display angle (which is not how it was when I first saw it) is beautiful, with the crystals having the appearance of almost radiating out from a central point.

This specimen is in excellent condition – there are no missing crystals except at the outer periphery (where it was removed from the rock) and around at the back-left, behind the radiating group (on the left side in the fourth photo). There is very minor chipping in a couple of spots – this piece is remarkably free from issues, a top-quality piece.

This is a special, classy barite!
