Aegirine, Microcline

Specimen # 100810
Mineral: Aegirine, Microcline
Location: Aegirine, Microcline, Mount Malosa, Zomba District, Malawi
Size: 7.6 x 4.9 x 4.1 cm

Description

The aegirine crystals on this piece are so sharp and clean – they are textbook crystals for the species. Standing up over the microcline, the central aegirine is a parallelg growth, with smaller crystals clustered around them. The prism faces of these aegirine crystals are incredibly lustrous, and under strong lighting some glints of dark green are visible. In excellent condition, no damage at all to the main aegirines. A couple incomplete crystals if you rotate and examine, but they are irrelevant to the piece.  This specimen is striking when mounted to showcase the main crystal vertically, as photographed (needs support) – it is a matrix aegirine of the top quality!
