Alabandite

Specimen # 102197
Mineral: Alabandite
Location: Alabandite, Merelani Hills, Lelatima Mountains, Manyara, Tanzania
Size: 4.7 x 3.2 x 2.3 cm

Description

This alabandite is well crystallized, exhibiting parallel growth. The crystals are truncated octahedra, associated with minor zoisite crystals (a partial one of which is the variety tanzanite). It is crystallized all-around. This specimen is in excellent condition, there is no damage. In places, the crystal growth was interrupted by other minerals that were present, and, as is the case with most of these, there is some minor pitting where other minerals interrupted growth and/or minor etching occurred during formation. All of these are natural features. This is a very good alabandite, at a super price for crystals of this size.
