Almandine Garnet

Specimen # 102709
Mineral: Almandine Garnet
Location: Tenente Ananias, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil
Size: 7.1 x 5.9 x 3.3 cm

Description

Deep red garnet crystals in matrix from Rio Grande do Norte. These crystals are dodecahedral, with very small additional modification faces. In excellent condition – no damage – this is rare from this locality, because the almandine crystals are trapped in solid rock and usually chip when they are exposed. The crystal colour is dark, and under strong light one can easily see nice red. This is an older specimen, acquired years ago from Frank and Wendy Melanson – Frank had acquired it in Brazil.
