Axinite, Clinochlore

Specimen # 100562
Mineral: Axinite, Clinochlore
Location: Gurche, Chanche District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Size: 6.9 x 6.2 x 1.8 cm

Description

Although axinite is a great mineral, the difficulty with it is that the crystals are so delicate and it is usually not so carefully handled, and, as a result, many axinite specimens are badly damaged. Not this one! This specimen features super sharp, thin blades of axinite perched across the top of a thin plate of sparkling adularia crystals. Quite interesting, some of the axinites are completely included with clinochlore, while others have little and some have none, all on the one piece.  In just remarkable condition for one of these – yes, there is minute chipping in places, but as you can see from the photographs, it is very hard to see and not distracting – this is an incredible high-quality axinite! It is actually equally displayable from either side. I personally prefer the view in the first photograph, but it is equally high-quality from the other side as well. A truly excellent specimen.
