Axinite – (Fe)

Specimen # 101284
Mineral: Axinite - (Fe)
Location: Axinite-(Fe), Bor Pit, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
Size: 4.7 x 2.3 x 2.0 cm

Description

This is a beautiful group of sharp, slender axinite-(Fe) crystals with very nice lustre. An aesthetic arrangement with some arc and curvature, and nice translucence in good lighting.

This axinite-(Fe) is a dark rich brown colour. To light it for photography and bring out the texture and translucence, the lighting is making it look paler than it looks in person. The translucence in the photos is brought out using strong lighting and reflectors to create a back-lighting effect.

This specimen is in excellent condition. From one display angle (the one that highlights the curvature, as in the first photo), there are incomplete crystals on the left side. From another display angle, that part is at the back and there is one tiny nick almost not visible to the eye, not noticed unless one seeks it out. This piece is from the small 2015 find, and is notable for its high quality among the pieces from this find. A very attractive axinite.
