Barite

Specimen # 100680
Mineral: Barite
Location: Jebel Ouichane, Sagangane, Nador, Morocco
Size: 11.0 x 6.5 x 4.5 cm

Description

This exquisite specimen features incredible delicate clustered spears of barite, intergrown and crossed. It is dramatic. The crystal arrangement is very three-dimensional at the top of the plate of matrix, as the different views here help to show. The barite crystals are pale blue, transparent to translucent. with lots of bright lustre.

Tip-to-tip, the vertical measure of the cluster is about 8.5 cm. The matrix plate is about 2 to 2.5 cm thick.

In excellent condition, there are a couple of small angled cleaves on the vertical cluster (they are hard to discern as such at all and look like crystal faces) and a couple of missing tips on the crystals that point forward). The quality is superb, given the delicate nature of the crystals.

This one is fragile and a risk to ship – it would be best if we could arrange a hand-off, for example at one of the major shows. It has made it around the world, and I want it to arrive in its new collection in this same condition
