Barite

Specimen # 100856
Mineral: Barite
Location: La Côte d’Abot, Saint Saturnin, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne, France
Size: 4.3 x 3.9 x 3.2 cm

Description

A beautiful deep golden barite crystal, this one has very good translucence and looks super under good lighting. The crystal is sharp and particularly glassy. It does have the partial sceptre-type overgrowths characteristic of this pocket, yet they are very subtle – there is less than 1mm of relief, raising them above the rest. In excellent condition – minor chips at the corners, not noticed at the optimal display angle and small relative to the size of this crystal. Stands perfectly for display. Great crystal, especially on the shelf under the lights.

(Note: in the photos where you can see the back face through the crystal, it has been specifically illuminated with a strong reflector, so you have a sense of the crystal’s clarity/translucence.)
