Barite

Specimen # 100029
Mineral: Barite
Location: Book Cliffs area, Grand Junction, Mesa Co., Colorado, USA
Size: 4.1 x 3.0 x 5.2 cm

Description

The central barite crystal on this specimen is the slightest smoky colour – a glassy, gemmy pristine crystal, surrounded by smaller crystals. This central crystal measures 2.0 x 1.4 x 1.6 cm. Looking down on it from a higher angle, there is some beautiful prism-like play of colour in the crystal under a good light, and from any angle with good light there is nice internal sparkle. On the one side some of the smaller crystals have selective frosting. This specimen was formerly in the collection of Ernie and Vera Schlichter. This is a brilliant barite miniature.
