Bournonite

Specimen # 100482
Mineral: Bournonite
Location: Les Malines District, Saint-Laurent-Le-Minier, Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Size: 3.8 x 3.6 x 2.2 cm

Description

Very fine cluster of intergrown bournonite crystals to 2 cm. Nice combination of terminations and prism faces. The lustre is almost silky metallic, with the appearance of a subtle patina. In excellent condition – a couple small nicks (not distracting) and the some contacts/incomplete crystals on part of the periphery. Great little specimen.

Most surfaces on the underside/back of this specimen are not fresh, with minor crystallization textures visible with magnification, and other mineralization present (including microscopic pyrite crystals), indicating that the specimen detached from the host rock sometime late in the crystallization sequence at the deposit.
