Brazilianite

Specimen # 102428
Mineral: Brazilianite
Location: Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 6.6 x 5.2 x 4.2 cm

Description

This is a superb specimen. The main crystal is 4.4 cm, is sharp and lustrous with great colour. It was brought out in 2001, among a large lot of these produced in the early heyday at the locality – I acquired it years ago from Frank and Wendy Melanson.

In fantastic condition – one tiny chip in the main crystal. This is a top quality piece and stands perfectly for display as photographed.

Exceptional display specimens of brazilianite have been found only in Brazil, and most of those have been produced in from the pegmatites intruded into the mica schists in the region of the Lavra do Corrego Frio, the type locality for brazilianite.  The Lavra do Telirio is one of these deposits. It is expected that there will be no further mining at the Telirio.
