Calcite, Sphalerite

Specimen # 101875
Mineral: Calcite, Sphalerite
Location: Calcite, Sphalerite, Nikolaevskiy Mine, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
Size: 6.8 x 4.5 x 4.5 cm

Description

This is a striking specimen because of the contrast between the calcite and the dark, sparkling sphalerite. The calcite crystals are actually comprised of two generations of calcite – an underlying grey, and the surface white. The sphalerite crystals are sharp and lustrous, with hundreds of triangular faces. There are also sharp, bright, golden chalcopyrite crystals and a few small galena crystals in association. In excellent condition, no damage. An elegant display specimen.
