Cerussite

Specimen # 100015
Mineral: Cerussite
Location: Mibladen Mining District, Midelt, Khénifra Province, Meknès-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Size: 7.6 x 4.7 x 5.0 cm

Description

Exceptional cerussite specimen! This towering stack of parallel cyclical twinned crystals is pure cerussite. The lustre of cerussite from Mibladen varies substantially from specimen to specimen, from dull, to frosted, to greasy to outright brilliant. Most of the myriad of crystal faces on this specimen (including the various faces around the terminations), are brilliant, with that gleaming glassy look particular to the best cerussites. The few non-brilliant faces are bright and satiny. A small bit of associated barite and galena on the back. All of the terminations are absolutely perfect – no nicks at all. There is a small spot of chipping at the lower right hand side and some around the left side as you turn it – irrelevant to this specimen in my view. This one is a killer.

About the photographs – I personally would display the specimen as shown in the first photo.  However, in person it is a rather three dimensional specimen and so I’ve rotated it a bit in each direction to give a better sense of that.
