Description

Detailed Description

This specimen is from the April 2022 pocket that produced highly distinctive chabazite specimens – in this pocket, many of the crystal edges were lighter than the the main body of each crystal, so that the crystal outlines were very prominent. The crystals are a nice mid-orange, sharp and highly lustrous. This piece features penetration twinning and also much rarer contact twins – indeed the largest crystal is a brilliant contact twin. In excellent condition overall, some incomplete crystals around the periphery. The matrix has been reinforced from behind/underneath to ensure stability.  A great Wasson’s Bluff chabazite – the contact twinning is special!

About The Chabazites From Wasson’s Bluff

Wasson’s Bluff is world famous for colourful chabazite crystals, ranging in colour from pinks to various hues of orange and all the way to dark red. The chabazites from Wasson’s Bluff have been collected since the mid-19th century, and production of truly fine specimens has been sporadic. Although several of the productive zones have been exhausted as the basalt has eroded away to the underlying sandstone, occasional finds have produced excellent specimens.

Please Note: the colour representation in the still photographs has been carefully calibrated and adjusted to approximate an accurate rendition of this specimen in daylight (shade). The colours in the video are not similarly adjusted.
