Chabazite

Specimen # 100647
Mineral: Chabazite
Location: Wasson's Bluff, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada
Size: 5.9 x 5.5 x 3.6 cm

Description

This cluster of large chabazite crystals (to 2.0 cm) exhibits the fine deep brick-red colour which makes some of the Wasson’s Bluff chabazite so distinctive. The crystals are sharp and lustrous, with a few relatively transparent yellow-coloured internal areas.  (Despite their lustre, I chose to prioritize rendering the colour accurately here, so I limited the reflections in the photographs so as not to obscure the colour.)  Collected in 2013, the piece is in excellent condition – no damage, a small number of incomplete crystals around the edges where the specimen was removed from the rock. The matrix has been reinforced from behind to ensure its stability. This is a super chabazite.
