Chalcopyrite

Specimen # 201173
Mineral: Chalcopyrite
Location: French Creek Mines, St. Peters, Warwick Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania, USA
Size: 8.0 x 6.0 x 3.5 cm

Description

A specimen with stepped chalcopyrite crystals from the historic French Creek Mines. (operated from 1717 until 1928). This specimen is really about the large crystal at upper left – it is the one that is complete, and shows the hollowing and stepped habit for which French Creek chalcopyrites are known. This crystal is in very good condition with very minor edge chips. Accompanied by small pyrite crystals, and under magnification, one can see tiny amphibole crystals in association. From the John S. White Pennsylvania Collection, a true classic.
