Description

A truly excellent specimen of chalcopyrite on siderite from Kaiwu. The sharp, highly lustrous chalcopyrites feature most prominently at the top (the way I would display it) and the largest is a parallel growth group 1.4 cm across. The siderite on this specimen is as good as the siderite on any of these I have seen – sharp, clean, lustrous and translucent. The siderites are actually zoned with phantoms if you look closely with decent light. A cleave at the lower left edge and no damage to anything larger on the piece – one smaller chalcopyrite is missing a corner, but because the chalcopyrites are so complex you need to look with a loupe to determine whether it is complex crystallization or a break. This is a classy piece.
