Chalcopyrite, Tennantite, Siderite

Specimen # 100270
Mineral: Chalcopyrite, Tennantite, Siderite
Location: Kaiwu Mine, Hezhang Co., Ghizou Province, China
Size: 9.1 x 6.0 x 3.3 cm

Description

Sharp, bright chalcopyrite crystals with groups of small intergrown tennantite crystals and delicate siderite blades from Kaiwu. The tennantite (I’ve had it analyzed to confirm) crystals are slightly silky looking but with magnification the crystal “surfaces” are comprised of a myriad of very bright parallel crystal faces. The chalcopyrite crystals are nicely balanced, with some separation and elevation over the siderite. Remarkably this piece is in near-perfect condition – a couple of minor chips to chalcopyrite crystals, not obvious and only visible at certain angles. This is a fantastic specimen.
