Description

Detailed Description

A group of clinochlore crystal rosettes. The clinochlore crystals are beautiful deep green – they look black from the edges and face-on they have fine colour. In good condition for the find, with edge rubs in places. The nice rosette near the middle of the specimen is translucent and backlighting shows the green nicely. Stands perfectly for display as photographed.

About These Clinochlore Specimens

These were found in 2011 by a geologist prospecting for economic ore minerals. The clinochlores were not considered by the propsector to be interesting specimens, and so they were only tracked down more recently. A very soft mineral, excavated by a commercial prospector looking for something else… you can imagine that most from the lot were not fine mineral specimens at all. Many of the pieces I examined looked like they had been run over by a bulldozer. Repeatedly. However, a very few are really nice, particularly under good lights, where the green becomes visible.  I am not aware of any specimens from this find that were pristine – these represent the best few out of the few hundred that I saw. Good clinochlore specimens are not easy to come by, so I was very pleased to find these.
