Creedite

Specimen # 102442
Mineral: Creedite
Location: Creedite, Navidad Mine, Mun. de Rodeo, Durango, Mexico
Size: 6.7 x 5.1 x 4.3 cm

Description

Detailed Description

This beautiful specimen is comprised of three balls of radiating creedite crystals – this was one mode of occurrence encountered during the big finds 2009-2012, crystal balls grouping together. Among the groups of balls, a few specimens really stood out for having salmon-coloured centres surrounded by brilliant, transparent colourless crystals, coming out in all directions. In exceptional condition for these, hardly any missing crystals. This is an exquisite creedite!

About these Navidad Mine Creedites

The Navidad Mine is famous for having produced some of the world’s finest creedite specimens. These came out from the late 1980s through to 2012, when the ore chimney producing them collapsed. For a relatively short period of time, 2009-2012,  fluorite production and then a specimen mining project at the mine produced large numbers of some of the best creedites ever found anywhere. This specimen is from this time period. Although most of the specimens were damaged, small numbers of exceptional pieces were preserved.
