Danburite

Specimen # 100373
Mineral: Danburite
Location: Charcas, Mun. de Charcas, San Luis Potosí, Mexico
Size: 7.9 x 6.0 x 4.8 cm

Description

This is a neat danburite specimen. The danburite crystals are coated on all sides to about half-way-up with calcite crystals, so that the danburites appear to rise out of the calcite. The key feature of this piece is the beautiful colourless parallel growth crystal on the left, with a pair of terminations. This crystal is lustrous and transparent, with some internap fracturing. The crystal to the right is also a pair of parallel growth terminations – it has some clarity, but also some cloudy sections and more internal fracturing. There is no damage to the main crystal, and the crystal on the right is good too but it does have a smooth contact that faces away from the viewing angelm where it grew up against another danburite. Great piece at a great price.
