Elbaite, Muscovite, Quartz

Specimen # 102079
Mineral: Elbaite, Muscovite, Quartz
Location: Elbaite Tourmaline, Muscovite, Quartz, Stak Nala, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Northern Areas, Pakistan
Size: 4.5 x 4.0 x 3.6 cm

Description

This is a beautiful combination of these three minerals. A complete, doubly-terminated muscovite hosts three elbaite crystals, the two smaller of which protrude right from the middle of the muscovite. In addition, there is a slender doubly-terminated quartz crystal perched along the right-hand edge of the muscovite. There are actually nice crystals of albite at the base of the larger tourmaline, not visible from the front as displayed.

The elbaite crystals have sharp, lustrous, striated prism faces and mostly-matte terminations. The crystals are dark – with strong backlighting they are deep olive-green with a small band of lighter colour near the terminations.

In excellent condition. Stands perfectly for display as photographed. A highly aesthetic and distinctive piece.
