Elbaite Tourmaline

Specimen # 100054
Mineral: Elbaite Tourmaline
Location: Camilo Gigante Mine, Itinga, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 2.9 x 1.2 x 1.0 cm

Description

This little gem is a gorgeous watermelon tourmaline crystal, with a greenish blue cap. The small find is recent (2013) and of the few crystals, this specimen is the best quality one I’ve seen – the termination is excellent quality with no damage. There is a chip to the backside of the crystal just below the termination and the tiny side-crystal is incomplete.  The colour zoning is interesting – the watermelon-green borders the pink all the way around, and then the dark cap is above. Beautiful play of colour and light in this crystal.
