Fluorapatite and Albite

Specimen # 100055
Mineral: Fluorapatite and Albite
Location: Golconda Mine, Coroaci, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 5.3 x 5.2 x 4.8 cm

Description

Deep inky blue, lustrous tabular fluorapatites crown this vertical column of white albite crystals. Excellent condition – no damage (except a contact at the lower backside of the piece, otherwise this would be a true 360-degree one). The underside of the specimen has been ground lightly so it stands perfectly for display. The largest fluorapatite is 2.4cm x 0.4cm. Under strong light, colour zoning of the blue is apparent, with some deeper blue areas (colour zoning is common with Golconda fluorapatites). It is very hard to find a good dark ink-blue fluorapatite, let alone one in this condition – an exquisite specimen.
