Fluorite

Specimen # 100796
Mineral: Fluorite
Location: Huanggang Mines, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhad, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
Size: 5.9 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm

Description

This piece features a gorgeous water-clear fluorite crystal (1.2 cm) accompanied by many smaller fluorites, perched on calcite. This fluorite is a jewel – the crystal is sharp and glassy, showing the forms of cube, octahedron and dodecahedron. In excellent condition – no damage to the fluorites (an incomplete one at extreme outer edge of the piece, not relevant, just looks like part of the matrix and is not really in view from the display angle anyway). With magnification, you can see that a couple of features on this main crystal show etch-like surface pattern, or evidence of a contact or event that completed before the end of the crystallization process, as their surfaces are crystallized – they are natural, not nicks. A beautiful gem.
