Fluorite, Pyrite

Specimen # 101855
Mineral: Fluorite, Pyrite
Location: El Hammam Mine, Meknes, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Size: 4.2 x 3.5 x 2.9 cm

Description

A super specimen – fluorite cubes are oriented over a fluorite octahedron to give the appearance of a stepped pyramid, covered in sparkling gold pyrite crystals. There are nice white calcite perched on the pyrite in one area of the specimen as well. By looking at the underside of the specimen, one can see (from crystallization textures, and the presence of pyrite and calcite crystals) that the original octahedron fragemented first, the new stepped fluorite formed on top of it, followed by the pyrite and then the calcite. The cube “steps” are a bit more pronounced in person – the pyrite is so bright in the photos that it is obscuring the form a bit. A striking piece!
