Galena (Spinel-Twinned)

Specimen # 101929
Mineral: Galena (Spinel-Twinned)
Location: Galena (spinel-law-twinned), Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Province, Huanuco Dept., Peru
Size: 4.8 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm

Description

This is such an aesthetic twinned galena. The galena crystals across the top of the specimen are twinned on the spinel-law, while there are two small galena crystals exhibiting no visually evident twinning lower on the piece. The galena crystals are sharp and lustrous, and reflect other parts of the specmen in their faces. There are small, sharp, lustrous dark sphalerite crystals in association.

In excellent condition. There are tiny imperfections along some crystal edges but with magnification one can see that almost all of these are natural growth features. One cleavage face nearly flush to the matrix at lower left where a small crystal was – hard to make out among all the glistening. The last photo is taken from above the specimen, as I’d display it.

An excellent, top-quality display specimen of twinned galena.
