Hematite

Specimen # 100960
Mineral: Hematite
Location: Coluna Mine, Miguel Burnier District, Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 6.9 x 5.3 x 3.3 cm

Description

This is a beautiful “iron rose” grouping of sharp hematite crystals. The hematite crystals are highly lustrous, with surfaces like black mirrors, while the beveled edges have a reddish metallic look, accenting the individual hematite crystals. The associated quartz is unusual for this locality, where it is more common to see individual roses without matrix or associations. In exceptional condition, small chips on one crystal at lower left, minor in the context of the piece, and the quartz crystals are incomplete. Sits perfectly for display. A great hematite specimen.
