Hematite

Specimen # 100003
Mineral: Hematite
Location: Miguel Burnier District, Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 6.0 x 5.1 x 2.5 cm

Description

This is a killer!  An old specimen, this beautiful hematite “iron rose” is in exceptional condition.  It is so hard to find these as free from damage as this one, particularly this size.  The central part of the rosette is intricate – I’ve included a couple of close-ups to help show that a little better.   (The underside / opposite side of the rose is cleaved.)  There is minor associated pyrophyllite in a couple of places at the periphery of the hematite.  I could wax on forever about this hematite – it is awesome.
