Hematite

Specimen # 100618
Mineral: Hematite
Location: N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Size: 4.2 x 4.0 x 3.0 cm

Description

This is a sweet floater comprised of complex composite hematite crystals. The crystals are sharp and have good lustre.

In excellent condition, a couple of tiny nicks on the display side are not obvious. There are chips in the back edges, not visible from the front. Minor red andradite in association, particularly visible in the photograph of the back of the specimen.

A beautiful hematite in a unique crystal style – from a distance it might look similar to a hematite rose but it’s a totally different morphology, and it’s thickest at the middle instead of a thin-centred rose. Will look great beside a classic hematite rose.
