Hubnerite on Quartz

Specimen # 101921
Mineral: Hubnerite on Quartz
Location: Hubnerite, Quartz, Mundo Nuevo Mine, Huamachuco, Sanchez Carrion Province, La Libertad Dept., Peru
Size: 7.1 x 6.8 x 4.8 cm

Description

This forest-like group of tall slender quartz crystals hosts two clusters of hubnerite crystals. The hubnerite crystals are sharp, lustrous and, viewed under strong light one can see some of the deep internal red colour in places. Micro hubnerite crystals on some of the quartzes show a little red in any decent light. The quartz crystals are sharp, transparent and lustrous. In excellent condition overall. Two small chips on the left side of the one hubnerite group – not prominent or distracting at all and not well seen from the main display angle. A couple of the quartzes have chipped terminations.

This specimen exemplifies so many of the factors that make a great display piece – looks fantastic on the shelf under the lights. I would display this one on a mid-level or lower shelf, so that you can look down on it a bit, as well as see it from the front. The largest hubnerite cluster looks great from above (as in the third and fourth photos) as well as from the front.
