Hydroxylclinohumite

Specimen # 100358
Mineral: Hydroxylclinohumite
Location: Jikhan, Kokcha Valley, Badakhshan, Afghanistan
Size: 3.2 x 3.0 x 2.8 cm

Description

This hydroxylclinohumite has super deep red colour, and is particularly vivid under strong light. It is a beautiful parallel growth crystal measuring 2.0 x 1.6 cm – pretty good size for this species. The last two photos show the back side of the specimen. There is damage at the base of the crystal, both on the sides and on the back (I’m guessing where it was attached to neighbouring crystals, but impossible to know) and this is clearly reflected in the price. Having said which, the upper third/half of the crystal and the termination are free of damage and wonderfully complex, and the lower parts aren’t what you focus on when you look at this one. Nice specimen.
