Olmiite

Specimen # 200127
Mineral: Olmiite
Location: N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Size: 5.2 x 3.1 x 3.0 cm

Description

Two “bow-tie” aggregates of olmiite crystals contrast with the dark matrix. The crystals are sharp and lustrous, and the bow-ties are as complete as the surrounding rock allowed. Gorgeous colour under ultraviolet light, shown in the fourth photo. In excellent condition, no damage. An aesthetic specimen from the John S. White collection with high-quality crystals and good contrast.
