Description

Detailed Description

A group of prehnite balls from the Fairfax Quarry. Their colour and internal cloudiness have been attributed to inclusions of amphibole (var. byssolite) and cholrite – small crystals of byssolite and chlorite are visible on this specimen, with magnification, along with sparkling crystals of epidote. One cream calcite crystal is perched on the prehnite as well. A good-sized specimen of prehnite for the locality. In very good condition overall, some contacts/abrasions and one repair (across the narrow joint in the middle, only visible from the side I consider the back of the specimen, where a chip is missing). Collected by George Brewer and gifted by him to John White. A great prehnite from the Virginia suite of the John S. White Collection (catalogue # 6-6-13).
