Prehnite, Epidote

Specimen # 100535
Mineral: Prehnite, Epidote
Location: Prehnite, Epidote, Arrondissement Diako, Cercle de Bafoulabe, Kayes Region, Mali
Size: 7.4 x 6.5 x 5.5 cm

Description

Gorgeous balls of radiating green prehnite are draped over and perched upon sharp, lustrous blocky epidote crystals. Particularly nice green colour, and excellent crystallization on the prehnite balls. The large central epidote looks like it is wearing a hood of prehnite. Very three-dimensional.

This is one of the only specimens I have seen from here where the prehnite is crystallized in the “knight’s helmet” shape of classic curved aggregates (like the French ones from La Combe de la Selle), in addition to the balls of radiating crystals. Only one other specimen in this lot shows this habit.

In exceptional condition for one of these, no damage to the display side. An incomplete prehnite ball is visible at lower right-hand side, no issue, as you can tell from the photographs. This is a very high-calibre specimen from the locality.
