Location: Quartz var. Amethyst, Potosí, Bolivia

Description

Detailed Description

A super specimen from this find, featuring glassy, light purple amethyst crystals with a background of small white-colourless calcite crystals. The amethyst crystals are very bright and lustrous, and translucent to tranpsarent. Some of the amethyst crystals are doubly-terminated (or perhaps they all are, with only some exposed above the calcite). In excellent condition, no damage. A beautiful arrangement of amethyst crystals.

About These Amethyst Specimens

These beautiful amethyst specimens are from a new occurrence, discovered in late 2017. They were found by farmers, at the edge of a field area, at the base of bordering hills. There isn’t more specific information about the locality at this time – I’m told that this is because it is in an unnamed remote area of Potosi, not near to any named settlement or named geographic feature. The specimens in this update are the best I’ve seen from the locality to date.
