Description

Detailed Description

This is an exquisite specimen from the John S. White quartz collection. Although most of the smaller crystals are candle-quartz/artichoke-quartz with smaller crystals overgrowing larger underlying ones, the central feature of the piece is a wonderful, flared aggregate of smaller quartz crystals culminating in a heart-shaped cup at the top. In excellent condition. Minor crystallized fluorite at the base and underside. A gorgeous Shangbao quartz!

About the Shangbao Mine

The Shangbao Mine, which is nestled in a bamboo forest, was originally a small pyrite ore operation. However, commercial mining operations ended decades ago and for many years has been operated for specimens. Today the Shangbao Mine is widely regarded as one of China’s great mineral localities.
