Quartz, Hedenbergite inclusions

Specimen # 201069
Mineral: Quartz, Hedenbergite inclusions
Location: Mega Horio, Serifos Island, Milos, South Aegean, Greece
Size: 11.9 x 2.7 x 1.5 cm

Description

An elegant Tessin-habit quartz, coloured green by inclusions of tiny hedenbergite crystals. (This variety of quartz is sometimes referred to by the varietal name, “prase”.) Under strong light, and with no more magnification that with a loupe, one can easily see the myriad of green needles responsible for the colour. This specimen exhibits parallel growth, along with very minor incomplete crystals at its base that are not parallel. In excellent condition, no damage, a small contact one third of the way from the termination on one side. A classic from the John S. White quartz collection.
