Quartz, Magnetite, Fluorite

Specimen # 100798
Mineral: Quartz, Magnetite, Fluorite
Location: Huanggang Mines, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhad, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
Size: 7.1 x 6.1 x 3.4 cm

Description

It’s not that often that you see a mineral specimen featuring fine crystals of four separate species (the website would include Calcite in the title if it didn’t dislike trying for four minerals at once). The top of this specimen features sceptred quartz crystals, and neat thin arrangements that are almost like strands of quartz crystals. They are associated with sharp dodecahedral magnetite crystals,  a cute, small, brilliant clear fluorite crystal on one side, and white calcite crystals. In excellent condition  – no damage to the quartz, no damage to the magnetite except at the periphery where the piece was removed from the surrounding rock. (The fluorite has a chip visible with magnification and there are incomplete calcites at the lower part of the front.) The quartz crystals are dramatic, and each of these minerals nicely offset each other both with form and contrast in the case of the magnetite. Great piece!
