This piece features a superb red phantom inside a sharp, lustrous, transparent quartz crystal. The phantom is sharp and distinct. There is actually a very faint additional colourless phantom above the red, visble on close inspection. This specimen has been trimmed on the underside with a saw and sits for display as photographed. In excellent condition, one small chip in an edge of the main crystal that faces away from view as I’d display it (first photo) and a couple of incomplete crystals at the periphery where this was removed from the surrounding rock. This is a striking red phantom.
About these Red Phantom Quartz Specimens
These quartz crystals with red phantoms from Orange River are from a pocket found in 2016. Red quartz has been produced from this locality for many years, however, long-time South African dealer Clive Queit told me he has never seen any he liked as much as these, because these have such distinct red phantoms enclosed in sharp, clear quartz crystals – in his view they are the best.
